  • Inhalt Course Overview

    This is the third course in a five part series that students will learn the history and overview of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), the relationship between ATM and B-ISDN, ATM adaptation layer, and ATM cells. Students will also learn about virtual paths and channels, physical layer, ATM traffic control, LAN emulation, traffic management, real-time ATM management, ATM v 10 Gbps Ethernet, and Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS).

    Unit 1: ATM 3 hours

    - Identify the benefits of ATM.
    - Identify applications of ATM.
    - Identify the protocols used by ATM.
    - Identify the features of ATM technology.
    - Identify services provided by ATM.
    - Identify standards of ATM.
    - Identify the characteristics of virtual channels and virtual paths.
    - Identify the uses of virtual channel connection (VCC).
    - Match the features of control signaling with their descriptions.
    - Identify the features of ATM cells.
    - Identify the features of ATM LAN Emulation (LANE).
    - Identify the features of synchronization within the cell-based physical layer.
    - Identify the features and functions of the SDH-based Physical layer.
    - Identify the characteristics of the ATM adaptation layer (AAL).
    - Identify the requirements for ATM traffic management.
    - Identify the key functions of traffic contention management.
    - Identify parameters used in achieving quality of service (QoS).
    - Identify methods of ATM network traffic control.
    - Identify the functions of ATM adaptation for VBR voice.
    - Identify the methods employed to transmit video signals on ATM networks.
    - Identify the functions of Multi-protocol on ATM (MPOA).

    Unit 2: SMDS 4 hours

    - Identify the features of SMDS.
    - Identify the characteristics of DQDB.
    - Identify how SMDS maps to the OSI model.
    - Identify the features of SMDS addressing.
    - Identify the features of the SIP Level 3.
    - Identify the features of the SIP Level 2.
    - Identify the features of the SIP Level 1.

    Course Access

    Each student has access to the course for a period of 6 months from the day of enrollment in the course.
