Participants should have completed Microsoft Windows 2000: Administration (Course Series 72410 - 72412) and the first five courses in this series.

    This is the sixth course in an eight-part series that will provide IT professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Server. At the completion of this course, students will learn to identify and administer a Windows 2000 network; manage, locate, and control access to objects in Active Directory; publish resources and delegate control; create, manage and troubleshoot distributed file systems; and monitor, configure, troubleshoot and control access to files and folders via Web services and access to Web sites.

    Objectives

    Unit 1: Windows 2000 Network 1 - 2 hours

    - Match the administrative strategies for a Windows 2000 network with the situations in which they are used.
    - Identify the centralized network management activities that can be performed using Active Directory.
    - Identify the advantages of publishing resources in Active Directory for centralized network management.
    - Identify the centralized management activities that can be performed using Group Policy.
    - Identify the user environment management activities that can be performed using Group Policy.
    - Identify the characteristics of a DACL.
    - Identify the advantages of using permission inheritance.
    - Sequence the steps in the logon process on a Windows 2000 computer.
    - Sequence the steps that occur when a user attempts to gain access to a Windows 2000 resource on a network.
    - Customize an MMC console by adding a specified snap-in to it.
    - Match the methods used to distribute customized MMC consoles with their advantages.
    - Create a taskpad view in an existing MMC console by using New Taskpad View Wizard.
    - Add a task to an existing taskpad view by using New Task Wizard.
    - Run an application by using a secondary logon.
    - Identify the features of a secondary logon.
    - Configure a shortcut to run an application by using a secondary logon.

    Unit 2: Active Directory Objects 1 - 2 hours

    - Identify the advantages of organizing Active Directory objects.
    - Create an OU by using the Active Directory Users and Computers window.
    - Move multiple computer objects in Active Directory by using the shortcut menu.
    - Publish an existing shared folder in Active Directory by using the shortcut menu.
    - Publish a printer that is installed and shared on a Windows 98 computer by using the shortcut menu.
    - Locate a user account in Active Directory by using the Find dialog box.
    - Locate a specified object in Active Directory by using the advanced options in the Find dialog box.
    - Locate a specified object in Active Directory by using the My Network Places shortcut icon.
    - Assign a standard permission to an Active Directory object by using the Users Properties dialog box.
    - Assign a special permission to an Active Directory object by using the Users Properties dialog box.
    - Identify the guidelines for delegating administrative control.
    - Assign Active Directory permissions to an OU by using Delegation of Control Wizard.

    Unit 3: Distributed File Systems 2 hours

    - Identify the features of a Dfs.
    - Sequence the steps that occur when a client accesses a shared folder in Dfs.
    - Identify the characteristics of a stand-alone Dfs.
    - Create a stand-alone Dfs root for an existing shared folder by using New Dfs Root Wizard.
    - Identify the characteristics of a domain Dfs.
    - Create a domain Dfs root for an existing shared folder on a server by using New Dfs Root Wizard.
    - Create a Dfs child node in an existing Dfs root by using the Add to Dfs dialog box.
    - Create a replica of a domain Dfs root by using the shortcut menu.
    - Display an existing Dfs Root by using the Dfs console.
    - Check the status of a Dfs shared folder by using the Dfs console.
    - Identify the solution for a specified Dfs problem.
    - Delete a Dfs root from a Dfs by using the Dfs console.

    Unit 4: Web Services and Sites 2 hours

    - Install IIS by using Windows Component Wizard. Enabler: Identify the components that are necessary for installing IIS.
    - Monitor IIS to identify the number of current active connections by using System Monitor.
    - Troubleshoot a Web site access problem in IIS by using Windows Explorer.
    - Establish a Web site by using Web Site Creation Wizard. Enabler: Identify the tasks to be performed for configuring a Web site.
    - Identify the steps involved in the process of anonymous user authentication.
    - Configure the identification parameters of a Web site by using the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.
    - Configure a home directory for a Web site by using the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.
    - Assign a default document to a Web site by using the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.
    - Configure user access permissions for a home directory by using the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.
    - Configure permissions for running Web site scripts by using the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.
    - Troubleshoot a Web site file access problem by using the IIS MMC.

    Course Access

    Each student has access to the course for a period of 6 months from the day of enrollment in the course.
